Purchased my nitro NC71 two years ago. Had the bag popping off occasionally and the debris flowing out when the unit is removed. Three weeks after the warranty expired, the pump motor stopped working. No help from Smart Pools, their answer was: it’s your responsibility, the warranty is expired. Repair shop said the suggested price for the new pump mtor is $638.00 which is slightly less than I paid for the cleaner. They discounted it deeply and repaired the unit for $338.00. What a piece of junk!I did not think that two seasons of using a pool cleaner once a week would wear out the pump motor. I expect the rest of the unit to fall apart soon. Also, the unit did not climb walls to the top.It went a little more than half way to the top. It never climbed the steps. I wish I had read the reviews first. I never would have bought this poorly made unit. Smart Pools leaves a lot to be desired. I guess what makes them smart is they get your money and then turn their back on you when their product falls apart. Don’t throw your money away….buy from a reputable company that stands behind their product.

I had a very duty pool, I could not see the bottom in the deep end, my local pool supply store loaned me this robot, I was very impreesed with how it worked, I have been looking online for reviews for this robot, I did not have any of these problems when using the robot, the robot I used looked very used, the pool store tells me they have it loned out almost daily, I wonder if these negative reviews are a small number compared to the actually how well this robot works, did anyone get a replacement Robot that then worked out good?

    • PoolSupplyWorld says:

Hi Robert, our customers have provided mixed feedback on the SmartPool Nitro Wall-Scrubber NC71 Robotic Cleaner, though cleaners can perform differently on a case-by-case basis, depending on the pool and how well the cleaners are maintained. If you are in the market for a robotic cleaner, please feel free to give us a call, and a member of our sales team will be happy to discuss options with you to help you find the cleaner best suited to your pool.

Robert, could not agree more. Now, maybe it is because it s so new…but, I had a Polaris 360 with booster pump to clean my pool. Had some line problems, did not want to bust up the concrete, so, I purchased this. It cleans it 10 times better and faster than the Polaris, and…with way less energy compred to that booster pump. Itappars to be a awesome product for me. I have used maybe 5 times, none of the problems listed below

Hi Ntex, thank you for your question about the SmartPool Nitro Wall-Scrubber NC71 . This cleaner draws approximately 5 amps in order to run. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

I have a Nitro Wall Scrubber with 2 year warranty. First year we loved it other than when pulling Nitro from pool a lot of debree would come out into the pool. Second year we used it once and it quit working. No help from Litehouse pools where bought. Called manufacturer who requested original sales slip etc. No local place to take it so had to send it out of state to be fixed. After about a month got e-mail that problem was under partial warranty and if I wanted it fixed it would cost an additional apprx. $150.00. Long story short it took about 2 months to get my Nitro fixed! Also no one would rent me a cleaner in the mean time. Service sucks!

It should be noted that the wall scrubber does not do windows. Nor does it do steps, corners or the edges of the pool. The first few times I used the wall scrubber, the sides of my pool looked like the shoulder of a busy highway where traffic tends to gather up road debris. To get a half way decent cleaning, I have to first manually brush the pool litter from the steps and sides into the middle area of the pool Its poor design does not end with its inability to navigate the pool properly. The “Super Capacity” filter bag and “Quick Drain System” work together to allow a good bit of debris to drain back into the pool when attempting to remove the unit. This has caused the removal of the cleaner from the pool to become a two person operation, one to remove it and another to hold a net below it to catch the crud that somehow drains from the super capacity filter bag. Another flaw in the manufacture of this cleaner allows much of the pool litter to somehow circumvent the filter bag altogether and find its way back into the pool via the impeller grid at the top of the unit while it attempts to navigate the pool. If this were all, it would be enough to give the Wall Scrubber” a well deserved 0-Star rating. But it isn’t all, probably the most frustrating problem is the 60’ foot “kink resistant Super Cord”. It may resist kinking, but it is in no way “Super”. It is very prone to twisting, tangling, and knotting itself up to the point that many times it is no longer able to reach the shallow end of my 38’ pool prior to the end of the 3-hour cleaning cycle (Untangling it completely is a 10-15 minute operation that must be done after every cycle).

I completely agree, this cleaner is terrible. DO NOT BUY. I have the exact same problems, I have only had it a week and everytime i put it in my pool the filter bad comes off, now my pool looks like a pond. Junk junk junk

My Aquabot Turbo T2 finally crapped out on me on Memorial Day hours before a big party. went to local pool store and got talked into this thing. The bag is garbage it does not pick up the fine sand and silt that actually makes the pool look dirty. Called customer service – useless! I am going to suck up the $800 and get either the Aquabot again or the polaris. I hope someone from Smartpool is listening.

  8. Sean Bowf says:

Had minor problems with it since the day I got it, and the seem to be getting worse. The bag blows off the base when cleaning the pool in the spring (silt clogs up the bag causing it to clog, and the fan sucks the bag off the base). One of our doors in the bottom came off during use. We were able to put it back on, but the spring that holds it closed was nowhere to be found. Recently, after about a year of use, the driver motor failed. It was a cross pin that appears to have totally rusted away (nothing left of it). Took a couple hours to disassemble it, figure it out, and fix it. Seems like this should have been made of stainless or the like. The one time I tried customer support from the manufacturer, I got an Email back with information about a different cleaner. When I contacted them again and pointed this out, and asked for info on my cleaner (was about the bag problem) I receieve no response back from them.

Can I purchase a caddy for my NC71

  10. Nancy Harju says:

I have a pebble tec finish on my in ground pool. Can this type of cleaner be used on pebble tec? Also, is everything included such as the transformer, cleaner and cording in purchase?

    • PoolSupplyWorld says:

Hi Nancy, thank you for your question. The SmartPool Nitro Wall Scrubber will work on a Pebble Tec finish. Everything necessary for installation and operation is included, meaning the cleaner body, power supply, filter bag, and power cord. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

  11. Jim says:

For a 20×40 in-ground pool what machine would you recommend for cleaning the bottom and the walls?

  12. MARY BEHNING says:

HERE CAN I BUY AN EXTA FILTER BAG. DO YOU SELL THE CADDY CART SEPARATELY?

    • PoolSupplyWorld says:

Hi Mary, thanks for your question. This cleaner comes with an extra large filter bag. However, if you would like an additional bag you will need the SmartPool 71 Series Disposable Filter Bag. This cleaner does not come with a caddy and the manufacturer does not make one available for individual purchase.

The Dolphin Pro Diagnostic In Ground Robotic Pool Cleaner with Caddy Cart is a fantastic robotic cleaner that includes a caddy for convenient storage and transportation. This cleaner carries a three year warranty, as opposed to the two year warranty on the NC71. Also, if you ever need to contact the manufacturer, Dolphin (or Maytronics, as their parent company is named) is notoriously easy to get in contact with, and has very responsive customer service and support. We highly recommend this cleaner for its durability, reliability and excellent cleaning performance. We’d be happy to answer any other questions you may have!

  13. Jake says:

Yeah. This thing is terrible. Wish I had found this site before I purchased. The bag motor is too powerful for the bag and sucks it off the base. This allows some of the pool debris to filter back into the pool when removing. Further, when the filter bag comes off the base, the remainder of the cycle is spent with the motor blowing debris back into the pool making it look dirty). I would seriously *not* recommend this robot.

    • Ralex says:

I completely agree. This robot is useless. I, too, wish I had found this site. I have all the same problems posted in this thread. It is a complete waste of money.

    • kathy says:

I am having the same issue. Worked perfectly for 3 weeks and now the bag is popping off EVERY time.

    • PoolSupplyWorld says:

Hi Kathy, the problem with the filter bag popping off the Nitro Wall-Scrubber NC71’s base is caused by air pockets in the filter bag. To fix this issue, submerge the cleaner under water, flip it over and install the filter bag. Rock it slightly to disrupt any air bubbles, and then attach the lid again. If this does not resolve the issue, we would recommend contacting the manufacturer for additional troubleshooting. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
