Now we are going to install the highly regarded Polaris 3900 Sport. The pool for our example has a dedicated return line with a 1-1/2” female fitting.
Make sure to flush out the return line by turning the pump on for a minute and then turn it off before we start. Next, install the universal wall fitting (UWF) by disconnecting the UWF from the quick connect and screw it on to the fitting with the blue restrictor plate in between the UWF and the return line. Now re attach the quick disconnect by inserting it into UWF, turn clockwise and pull.
The next step involves adjusting the hose to the right length needed for your pool. Measure the deepest part of the pool. Cut leader hose, from end that attaches to feed hose, so length is equal to the greatest depth of the pool. Attach the leader hose to the feed hose and attach the feed hose to the quick connect at the return line. The hose must be within 6” of the farthest end, longer or shorter. If longer, separate the hose at the swivel and cut equal amounts of overage from each 10 foot feed hose section. After the length is adjusted position the hose floats as shown below:

Now we need assemble the cleaner, first attach the feed hose connector to the feed pipe by pressing until it locks. The filter bag is packaged in the collar area of the vacuum tube, pull out the bag and attach the clasp to the loop on the top of the bag and secure the Velcro strips. Now turn on the filter pump to prime before turning on the booster pump.
That’s it for assembly but we need to check to make sure our wheels are spinning the proper RPM. The manual states the 280 needs to operate between 30 and 36 RPM. To check yours, mark one wheel tire then turn the pump on and count the revolutions for a minute. If your count is outside the 30 – 36 range, refer to your manual for help.
Now you can sit back and enjoy your Polaris 3900 Sport. We still recommend you refer to the manual for maintenance tips and fine tuning to ensure your pool is cleaned as efficiently as possible.
