Pool Frog Mineral System Review

POOL FROG is a mineral based water care system created by King Technology. This patented mineral technology seeks out to destroy bacteria in the pool water as well as reduce chlorine and bromine use up to 50%. This leaves the water feeling softer and looking clearer with much less work than other water treatment options out there. POOL FROG

POOL FROG Mineral Systems are available for both above ground and in ground swimming pools. The POOL FROG minerals are used to help control the bacteria, prevent algae, and to keep the pH neutral so you can reduce the use of chlorine in your pool water. This means that you can say goodbye to red stinging eyes, dry itchy skin, and faded swimsuits. Giving you more time to enjoy swimming in water that is both clearer and softer than normal.

POOL FROG comes in many different models. This means that there is a model to fit your pool.

Heater Element Replacement Guide

Replacing parts for your hot tub or spa can be somewhat intimidating for the novice hot tub or spa owner. There are many fears and apprehensions when doing any repair project. There are some projects that are more difficult than others, while there are some that are simple and easily accomplished by anyone. One of those easy projects is replacing the heater element in a flow through heater.

The heater element is housed in a heater assembly housing, which exchanges heat produced by the element to the water. In the following guide we will show you just how easy it is to remove the heater element and replace it within the heater assembly.

The following instructions are meant to be a guide. Please refer to your manufacturers manual for specific instructions on replacing your flow thru heater element.

CAUTION: It is very important to make sure prior to starting this project that all electrical power to the spa or hot tub is disconnected before removing the heater assembly.

The heater assembly is removed and ready to work with.

The first thing we must do is remove the nuts that are attached to the wire terminals.

After the nuts are removed the heater element will drop into the heater assembly.

We can now use some tools to help coax the heater element out of the heater assembly.

We found that for this task a screwdriver worked best.

Once we have the heater element close enough you can reach in and remove it.

Now that the heater element has been removed we can now replace it.

The new heater element just slides into the heater assembly.

We line up the terminals on the top of the heater element with the holes on the assembly.

Be careful not to damage the terminals or the epoxy that surrounds the terminals.

We then reattach the nuts to the wire terminals and we are finished.

With these basic tools we have successfully replaced an old heater element.

If you need a heater element replacement don't be afraid. As you can see from this guide it is a simple process that anyone can accomplish. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below.

Ways You Can Save Energy

In today’s society being eco-friendly and energy efficient is no longer a trend. It can be described more as a lifestyle. This lifestyle can impact all parts of your home including your pool or spa. To help you live this lifestyle we put together some ways to save energy when it comes to your pool and spa.

Choose the Right Pump

The swimming pool pump is probably one of the biggest users of electricity in your backyard. One thing you can do is to choose the right pump. Choose a pump that is optimized for your pool filter of choice. If your pump is operating at maximum efficiency you’ll be using less energy.

Some pumps are made to operate at different speeds. These variable speed pumps allow the pool to run at a lower horsepower when needed. All the major manufacturers like Jandy, Pentair, and Hayward have variable speed pump options.

Energy efficient pool pumps.

Know When Water is Circulated

Running your filter and cleaning system during certain times during the day can help conserve energy. When you operate your pool pump before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. you’ll be avoiding the electric power “rush” hour. This will help reduce demand on your neighborhood and local government’s electrical system.

You can also install a timer to control the pump’s cycling. In a Department of Energy study conducted in Florida most people found that using their filtration and cleaning system for 3 hours was sufficient enough to produce satisfactory water quality. This saved an average of 60 percent off their energy bill from pumping.

Cover Your Pool

Covering your pool is a simple way to help reduce energy usage. By using a good pool cover you can keep the water in your pool an average of 10 degrees warmer. This can cut pool heating costs by up to 90 percent.

You can also reduce water and chemical evaporation by up to 70 percent by using a pool cover. This could save you nearly a thousand gallons of water per month.

A good pool cover can help keep your pool clean. This means that you won't have to run your filter pump as often. As you know the less you run your filter pump the more energy you’ll be conserving.

Solid pool cover

Using Efficient Heating

Many people like to keep their pools heated and usually use a pool heater or heat pump. Raising your water to a certain temperature can cost anywhere from 10 percent to 30 percent more in energy costs.

To maximize the heat in the pool, as mentioned before, you can use a pool cover or make use of solar energy. Try to place your pool in the sunniest part of your yard. This will help to maintain the heating in your pool.

If at all possible, try to screen it from cooling winds. Using a solidly built fence can act a great windbreak for your pool. A windbreak will help maintain an ideal pool temperature.

Keep to a Regular Preventative Maintenance Schedule

Your pool and spa equipment can break down and be less efficient as time goes by. To prevent this from happening it is best that you keep to a regular preventative maintenance schedule. This means backwashing or cleaning your filter as recommended by the manufacturer.

Removing any foreign materials from blocking the intake grates on a regular basis can save on energy. When the intake grates are full of debris it can cause your pump to work harder. When you provide regular swimming pool maintenance your equipment it will operate more efficiently and save on your energy costs in the long run.

Calendar photo

Conclusion

These are just some ways that you can become more energy efficient when it comes to your swimming pool. If you have other tips about making your pool more energy efficient please feel free to leave a comment below.

Pool Cover Comparison

Swimming pool covers are a great way to keep your pool clear and energy efficient throughout the year. A swimming pool cover is essentially a large amount of material covering your pool.

The cover material can be made of materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene or vinyl. There are many different types to choose from. It can be an overwhelming process if you don’t know what to expect or what to look for.

To help you understand what your options are when it comes to buying pool covers we will look at the three most common types of pool covers.

Pool Supply World Solar Cover

Solar Covers

The first type of pool cover is the solar swimming pool cover. Solar swimming pool covers resemble packing bubble wrap. The cover is made up of tiny transparent polyethylene bubbles. These bubbles are designed to trap sunlight and help to heat your pool.

When placed on the pool overnight, the solar pool cover helps to retain the heat in your pool, while reducing water and chemical evaporation. This will help save you money as you will not need to top off the pool and add pool chemicals as often.

Solar covers are a great cover for your pool, but you should know that solar covers are not suitable for closing your pool for the season. When closing your pool you will want to look for a specialized pool cover better known as winter covers.

Pool Supply World Winter Cover

Winter Covers

One way a winter cover is different from a solar cover is that they are able to withstand the freezing temperatures found during the cold winter months. This means that you could use a winter cover all year round.

These covers can be made up of tough woven polyethylene fabric. This fabric is time tested and is the toughest, most durable material available. This means that you won’t have to worry about the cover cracking, splitting or tearing from the extremely cold weather.

Winter covers are great for protecting your pool from dirt and debris, but you should know that many winter covers cannot support the weight of small pets or children. To turn your pool into a safe area you’ll have to look into a safety cover.

Pool Supply World Safety Cover

Safety Covers

Using safety covers you combine the benefits of solar covers and winter covers with an emphasis on safety. A safety cover attaches to a pool’s decking material using a combination of anchors and straps. This system provides strength to support the weight of children or small pets.

Safety covers come in different materials like mesh or solid. The difference between the materials is fairly simple. The solid cover doesn’t allow sun, water, or anything else to get into your pool, while the mesh cover still allows sun and water into your pool.

Safety covers provide all the benefits of solar covers and winter covers, but they can put your mind at ease knowing that your pool is safe.

Conclusion

Any of these products would work great for keeping your pool clear and energy efficient. Depending on the area you live in and what your specific needs are, there is a perfect pool cover for your pool. To learn more about our pool covers please visit our pool cover page.
